The eruption has forced Denpasar International Airport in Bali, a popular tourist destination, to cancel and suspend dozens of flights, both domestic to Jakarta and Lombok, and international to Australia, China, India, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore. Franciscus Xaverius Seda Airport near the volcano has been closed until June 19 as a safety precaution.
Airlines including Jetstar, Scoot and AirAsia cancelled flights to and from Bali this morning (June 18). Local tour operators estimate that more than 1,000 tourists have been affected, particularly those planning to visit Bali and Komodo National Park.
